Dental work for anyone can be scary. Dr. Stephanie and her staff try to make each experience a pleasant one. We understand that being anxious about a new or unfamiliar experience is very common for children.

Nitrous Oxide
Nitrous oxide is used for mild to moderate apprehensive patients. We call it goofy gas because sometimes patients get a little giggly on it. This agent helps patients relax. They are not asleep. When the nitrous is turned off toward the end of the procedure, oxygen is administered until the patient feels back to normal.
Oral Sedation
Some patients need a little bit more than just nitrous alone to help with their anxiety. Oral sedation is used in these cases. Oral medications are administered to the child by the dentist. Sleepiness is a part of this process. However, your child is monitored constantly throughout the procedure. They are easily aroused to respond to simple commands. After the sedation, children will need to go home. They will be able to return to school and normal activities the next day.
General Anesthesia
For patients who have extensive dental needs or who have special mental or physical handicaps, general anesthesia is offered. These patients will be seen for their dental work at Saline Memorial Hospital in Benton.
